What can mentoring do for your online business?

Starting an online business is a huge learning curve. The idea is initially very exciting, but soon the excitement and interest can turn into frustration and confusion as you plough your way through a minefield of information. It’s all too easy to suffer massive information overload and give up the online dream before you have even started. And that’s before you have even started creating and delivering content on a regular basis!

Does the following sound familiar?

You buy an information product, read it, and think to yourself ‘This is awesome, it’s just what I need I’ll put this into action.’

The next day another offer lands in your inbox, you buy it, read it, and again you start to feel excited that ‘this is the one. The real thing… just what I need’.

A few days later…  you’ve completely forgotten about that fabulous product, you buy into the next big launch… and the cycle continues.

Why is this? It’s partly the dream and idea that there is a magic button or silver bullet out there; a big ‘secret’ that if you find it you’ll become rich. The other reason is information overload and not knowing where to begin.

How do you get out of this cycle? Part of the reason for creating Internet Marketing What’s Next is to deal with this problem.

For many people the answer is mentoring.

By finding a good mentor you literally have someone to hold you by the hand, ‘connect the dots’ for you, and ensure that you stay focused. By working closely with someone who is themselves already successful you stand a much greater chance of achieving success yourself. Reading an information product or strategy and actually doing it are two completely different things.

Often things sound easy but implementing them is a whole different story. If you have a mentor there to guide and support you they can ensure you get up and running quickly and that you are on target to achieve the important goals in your online business.

Some people argue that success breeds success and I can’t help but agree. If you’re struggling online then getting a good mentor may be one of the best decisions you ever make.

Would you like to see if a mentor is for you?

  1. Working with a mentor doesn’t only keeps one motivated but also teaches them how to create a road-map for achieving success, in almost any field. I know many people who are already working with mentors and using missed opportunities to their benefits.

Thanks for discussing an important success formula!

  2. Lilach! Great stuff, and very timely. The net is filled with more information than ever, and mentors need a highlight!

Ken Pickard wrote a related post recently on Adrienne Smith’s blog, where he drops this quote:

“A self-taught man has a horrible teacher and an even worse student.”

A bit harsh, but I tend to agree.

Humanity, since the beginning has always leveraged their most powerful tool, 1-to-1 transmission of knowledge.

Parent to kid, teacher to student, mentor to apprentice.

I wrote more about this in a guest post here: http://www.grasp-the-nettle.com/modelling-the-masters/sea-of-geniuses/

Then again, I might be biased since I’m kind of a professional mentor :)

For me when I’m mentoring others, it’s about building a good relationship and it is very useful if you have limited experience or a gap in your knowledge, it can then be very effective for you. For instance, you may have a great idea for a business but need a bit of guidance to turn it into a successful venture. As your mentor we can provide you with a number of benefits, which include:
-guidance on developing and improving your business
    -help with difficult decisions
-ideas for new products or services, or ways of working
-tips for your business that are gained from practical experience
-access to a network of contacts with other people
We will also help you to:
    -develop key business skills
    -improve your problem solving abilities
    -build confidence
    -work on your personal development

Thanks for sharing this it’s a great post.

  4. I think a mentor is essential to anybody looking to be successful with an online business. In fact, I have yet to meet anyone who has managed it on their own. I personally have a few people whom I consider to be my online mentors but also frequent my six figure mentors community, where there are even more!
