Socialable Blog

My goals for 2012

Well it’s officially 2012.  Where has 2011 gone?  I swear the older I get the faster the days/years go.

I wanted to write a blog where I can look back on 2011, what I’ve achieved, what’s been a disaster and my plans for 2012.

2011 was an interesting year to say the least.  This time last year I was about to launch Network Waves but it didn’t happen.  We had a huge launch party with very high profile guests, people paid us membership fees and nothing.  Literally.  I have to say that this is one of the biggest disasters in my business career.

Why didn’t it launch?  Well I can’t go too much into it for legal reasons but let’s just say that having developers is one of the biggest headaches and learning curves I have had to face.

The good news is that we are planning on launching Network Waves in a couple of months’ time.  The road has been a very long and bumpy journey (not to mention expensive!).  I have learnt a huge amount in the process and am very grateful for many people for being patient and am surprised that people are still signing up to be part of it when Network Waves does finally launch.

One of the good things that came out of “waiting” for Network Waves was that I set up this blog.  My initial main focus was to get 1000 daily visitors and 20 people optin each day.  Fast forward just over 6 months and I’m now getting around 3000 daily visitors and 50 optins.  I’m really proud of this achievement and it just goes to show you that in time, with regular blogging you can achieve this.  I also have to take this opportunity to thank my blogging coach Sarah Arrow for whipping me into shape and stop me from being a butterfly.

I also need to say a very big thank you to my fabulous readers.  Without you guys I wouldn’t know what to write about and am truly grateful for you.  Your comments mean so much to me.

So what’s in store for 2012?

Apart from Network Waves launching I’m also working on a couple of other very exciting ventures and can’t wait to release them this year.  I’m really enjoying working with people on a 1-1 basis so look forward to carrying out more mentoring.  My social media marketing services are expanding and I’m looking forward to growing that area of my business too.

2012 looks to be a very exciting year.  But I couldn’t have done it without you guys.  I wanted to say a very big thank you to many of my loyal and regular readers and have listed you below.  I apologise if I’ve missed anyone off, please feel free to add your name too.  And if you’re new to this site, please do leave a comment and say hello.

So how is 2012 looking for you?  What plans do you have?  Are you setting goals?  If there’s anything you’d like to see more of or less of on Socialable please do leave a comment and share.

What’s in 2012 for us? Frankly, recovering and then expanding after we lost one of our own…. :(

That said, we’ve got some exciting ideas about taking our courses online, as well as making them more widely available face to face.

Always fun to read your stuff!

I’ve always had a passion for social media, and I transformed this passion into a successful job pitch over the last few months with my ex-employer. In December 2011 I was about to be made redundant and had 2 choices: Spend forever looking for a job, or go it alone and see what happens! And here we are… After successfully pitching to my ex-employer to take me on as an external social media consultant , 2012 will be my first year being a self-employed Social Media Strategist/Consultant for businesses, and in actual fact, today is my first day!

Wow, Lilach, Thanks so much for including me on the list of new friends. Its quite a surprise considering we only met a short while ago.

I have huge plans for this year… it’s going to be good Lilach, I can feel it in my bones. Can you?

2011 was an interesting year to say the least. Definitely some growth spurts as well as forming new roots in different areas of my business. I’ve definitely met a great bunch of new clients but had to use this year to make a few changes to shuffle down to where I needed to be. I do feel I’m on track now but need to really put the pedal to the metal and make things happen.

I did have a look at your Network Waves and wondered what happened, but being I don’t know you well, I figured it might come up in a post… which it did!

I am most curious as to how you gained such a vast readership. I have only managed to accomplish just over 25% of your readership but it has been over a year so I’ve definitely dropped the ball there somewhere. It likely has a lot to do with consistency (here’s hoping)… as I have had to bow out a few times this year to take courses, focus on children and attend to some family issues.

I’m pleased it’s a new year and hope 2011 didn’t let the door hit it in the A$$ on the way out! :-)

I look forward to interacting with you this year. I am sure you can show me a thing or two about a thing or two.
Congrats on your progress Lilach and here’s to a fantastic 2012. (clink)

I can feel it too and am so excited about 2012.

Yes, I decided to keep quiet about Network Waves… it’s been such a long time waiting and with development (which is pretty much out of your control). It’s certainly been a roller coaster ride for me!

In terms of my readership, well it didn’t happen overnight. I’ve been blogging for just over 6 months although I did have a presence online beforehand. I think what’s made the difference for me is being consistent in my blogging. I used to blog 2-3 times a week, sometimes only once… The last 2-3 months I’ve been blogging daily and what a transformation. It really does make a difference but it’s a huge amount of work – I won’t lie to you. Because with writing content daily you also have to promote your blog and then have the time to respond to people when they comment like yourself:) One of the other things I try and do is learn what my readers actually want me to write about so it’s as focused as possible and provides as much value. This has certainly helped in terms of people sharing my content and then getting more traffic etc.

It also helps to network online as much as you can and build relationships, I find I get a lot of repeat visitors this way too.

Wishing you a very happy, successful and fun 2012 – a virtual clink back to you:)

Great first post of the year Lilach, I seem to remember meeting up in central London a few months ago and you calling me for directions, was a great afternoon out anyway and we must do it again sometime, I also seem to remember helping you launch this blog and designing the book cover (amongst other things for you) which was a pleasure to do, glad your happy with it anyway.
I have taken a back burner on my blogging to concentrate on web development as i seem to be better at that (a turnover of 5 figures for the past 6 months can atest to that). I remember also you telling me about NW as well and how shocked I was at that statement, here was me thinking that you was invincible and that everything you touched turned to gold (still noone is perfect, even the best ones).

Well here is me wishing you a great 2012, a great NW launch and plenty of good times ahead Lilach.

  22. I am looking forward to 2012, unlike some of my professional colleagues who are less willing to adapt to market conditions.

For professionals I think the right the right frame of mind has to be based on client-centred propositions
where the “value-add” can demonstrated. To quote a recent tweet of mine if you don’t know where you value is then your clients definitely won’t.

Some professionals are still aggrieved about the loss of value in transaction based services but this is inevitable in the long run. The value in commodity services is in how efficiently you execute them and creating volume.

True value comes from expertise in business environments and activities where there is scope for differentiation through expertise, experience and what I call technology leverage. So my message for 2012 is differentiation = value = profit. In my case this includes specialist services for IFA’s, an on-line accounting system for contractors and expert witness services.

Hope this has sparked some thoughts on how you can create value in your businesses in 2012.

    @rjbradley

    • Lilach says:

Thanks Robert, I too am looking forward to 2012. All business need to adapt and the sooner they realise that, not just in terms of the economy but also as you say in the way they work – i.e demonstrating the value etc.

I think the smarter businesses who are prepared to make changes will win in the long run.

I can totally relate to you when it comes to frustration with technology and what you envisage will work and come together quickly and easily, takes far longer than anticipated or doesn’t work at all! In my experience, this is common to many people, especially with primarily online businesses and the ones that end up thriving are driven relentlessly forward by the person who has the vision and the dream but equally (if not more) importantly, the tenacity and determination to make it work!

I’m not a businessman myself I just do the writing work for them as I’m fairly qualified. I’ve only just started blogging but it’s good fun. The trick is to get into the routine of posting every day. I kept forgetting to begin with and then there are awkward gaps between posts.

    • Lilach says:

Thanks Alex:) Well I’m a great believer in karma and things happening for a reason – even though it doesn’t necessarily feel it at the time!

I agree about posting every day, it’s getting to become routine for me, so much so I can’t imagine posting 2-3 times a week now…
