Are you losing traffic from your website?

I’m sure by now you know the importance of generating traffic to your website.  Hopefully you have had success in implementing my great methods. If you have not yet had a chance to implement them, I strongly urge you to consider giving them a go. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

But hopefully you have started using my techniques and are having success in driving traffic to your website. If so, well done! You have obviously done a lot of the hard work in successfully attracting people to visit your website. But don’t get complacent, as your work is not complete. Now you have attracted traffic to your site, you now need to maintain it and keep your visitors coming back again and again. Don’t let your hard work of attracting traffic be wasted. Use my 6 brilliant tips for maintaining traffic. Better still they are free and simple to implement.

  • Keep the content relevant to your target audience and current visitors. For instance, don’t write about your dog if your website is on learning languages.
  • Develop a tone that is in tune with your audience – Don’t bombard your reader with technical language they have no knowledge of.
  • Don’t substitute quantity for quality. Indeed, aim for high quality content above all.
  • Offer your audience something different. Write about something novel or something that no one else knows. Or take an original or alternative viewpoint on an issue. Or offer an alternative way of doing things, or using your product in a novel way. Especially grasp this if they are relevant to your niche.
  • Be concise. Don’t waffle on unnecessarily or bombard your reader with things of no interest to them. If you have an exciting point to make or an attractive offer, don’t cloud it with irrelevant information. Don’t have lengthy introductions. Get into the substance straight away. Make your content digestible – Using bullet points are useful for this.
  • Have a variety of media and content on your website to keep users entertained – Include a crazy or attention-grabbing photo, interviews with renowned, well-known, or respected people.

Don’t delay implementing these excellent methods. The longer you wait the more traffic you will lose.

Great tips, particularly regarding how important it is to be relevant, concise and not to waffle. Often see people going off on tangents with info that is largely irrelevant. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Stefan, yes you are so right, it’s also very frustrating reading something that doesn’t deliver what it says it’s going to. The more concise and relevant you can be the easier it is to get repeat visitors to your website.

Great article. we bloggers spend so much time and effort trying to bring traffic to us, once it’s there we need to impress so that they keep coming back. My belief is i’m only as good as the last article I posted. Keeps me on my toes that way.

Great tips Lilach! Yes, many of us are probably guilty of getting off subject from time to time. But you are so right. People don’t want to read about dogs on a “healthy cat” blog. Thanks for this reminder. Can’t wait for your next one.

    • Lilach says:

Thanks Joe:) It’s been a learning cure – writing for my audience rather than what I want to write about!

I do have what I call “filler” blog posts that are perhaps not as connected but mean something to me – like my article on mumpreneur entering the dictionary. It’s good from time to time to get personable and write about something that means something to you – it gives the opportunity for people to get know more about you and also reaches other people that may not normally read your blog.

Sound advice Lilach. I particularly like your comment “Don’t bombard your reader with technical language they have no knowledge of”…

I’ve been on my soap box about that one myself of late. I find this can be a particularly problem in the online marketing industry. Someone releases e.g a new piece of software and in their training videos, whilst they clearly know what they are talking about when they use technical terms, they just seem to presume everyone else does too… Aaaagh ;-)

Often simple (to us) terms that slip of the tongue won’t mean a thing to the inexperienced person reading or watching our offerings…

…Or is it just me Lilach ;-) ?

    • Lilach says:

Thanks David:) Don’t worry, it’s not just you:) I like to find the balance between offering step by step instructions and at the same time not to come across as patronising. I think it also helps if you qualify your audience. So for example if I’m speaking at an event or on a webinar I’ll try and find out the skillset/knowledge of my audience, that way I can try and target to them as much as possible.

Of course this is much more difficult in a blog or video which is why when you create your title you need to be very clear about what’s “inside”. And again, never make presumptions of what people do/don’t know.
