I’ve started using Aweber about three years ago and couldn’t be more pleased with it – it’s become an essential part of my business, helping me manage my list, grow it and see more return on investment. It’s definitely my recommended choice, even if it is a little more expensive than MailChimp, another very popular option. Although I’ve talked about Aweber in the past as well, I thought I would update that review in light of their recent facelift and updates, and give an overview of the 10 best ways to use it to get the most out of it.
What is Aweber?
The guys at Aweber have been going through their customers’ feedback and usage patterns analytics and have come up with a new design for the popular email autoresponder. The focus of this update was to make Aweber easier to use, with a slicker, more intuitive interface that will help you grow your lists and create the best messages for them.
How to get the most out of Aweber
1. Beautiful emails
Aweber makes it very easy to set up beautiful emails with their incredible selection of themes and templates:
Once you’ve decided on a template, this is where the fun part starts:
Filling up emails is very easy to do, intuitive and even fun, as I mentioned before. In order to start creating your email you have to drag and drop the block that you want from the toolbar at the top. As you can see, you can add “Follow me” buttons for Facebook and Twitter, your logo, your signature, coupons, images and much more. If you want to delete any of the blocks, simply click on them and then on the X. I recommend you try different themes and layouts for your emails until you find the version that gets you the most clicks and the best results.
2. Personalize your emails
Another great feature is that you can easily personalize your emails with subscribers’ names and any other information you want to. This is a great feature that I definitely recommend, as your emails won’t look as “spammy” and it will get them that personal touch that can get more people to want to open your emails.
3. Schedule emails
Another very useful feature is that you can easily schedule email broadcasts to go out at the time of your choice. This feature is a great time-saver, as you can schedule several email broadcasts at the same time and then be able to get on with your other work. If you send your emails when people are more likely to see them, you also stand a better chance of getting more people to open them. Check out the statistics of your older email broadcasts to see at what time you sent them and how many were opened to find out the best times for you.
4. Integrate your blog with Aweber
If you have a blog and want to make sure your subscribers don’t miss any of your latest updates, you can integrate Aweber with your blog (no matter your blog software) and instantly convert your blog posts into emails that will be sent automatically to your list! All you need to do this is have an RSS feed and you’re good to go. This great feature will allow you to keep your subscribers up to date with all your latest content and in return you will see more traffic to your website.
5. Sign up forms
Creating sign up forms is just as easy as creating new email broadcasts, and there are lots of templates to choose from in order to create the perfect design. The first step is the design phase where you choose a template:
The second step requires you to set up the basic settings such as form name, “thank you” page settings and the option to enable Facebook registration form:
Now click on “save your form” – your form is finished and ready to be published!
There is no formula for the perfect sign-up form, so in order to get the best results, split testing is highly recommended. Fortunately Aweber makes it very easy to perform split testing. On your dashboard, click on the “Sign Up Forms” tab and then click to expand the “create a sign up form” tab:
After clicking on “Split test your sign up forms” you will see the following fields:
As you can see, all field have a percentage sign at the end. All you have to do start your split test is enter a percentage number for each field which will reflect how often that field will appear on your website (0 meaning that form will not be used at all). After saving your split tests, you will be able to get the HTML code that you have to place on your website. You can then check the results of your split test by coming back to this page.
7. Welcome new subscribers
New subscribers need special attention in order to get them hooked on your content. Aweber’s autoresponder feature allows you to welcome new subscribers with sequential autoresponders. The best part about it is that you don’t need to do it manually as their software can send these emails automatically thus saving you time while helping you build a relationship with each of your new subscribers.
One of the things I really like about Aweber is its extensive reporting. If you’ve read my blog before then you know just how important measuring and analytics are to me, and when it comes to email marketing, I have to say reporting is crucial. It’s very important to check your clicks on each email so you can eventually figure out what makes your audience tick: what makes them open emails? Aweber have an impressive list of reports, so you can get a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn’t and therefore get better results in the future:
You will be able to see who opened your messages and who didn’t, as well as who unsubscribed and how much revenue a particular message generated.
9. List segmenting
This brings me to another great feature, the ability to segment your list. This is a huge time-saver if you want to reach a particular group of people, for example those who clicked on a certain link from your message or who bought a particular product.
You can easily create segments, based on:
- Who opened or didn’t an email
- Who clicked on a particular link from an email
- What pages a subscriber has visited on your website
- Demographics (age, gender, location etc.)
- What products they bought
- How much time they spend
With this incredible targeting you will be able to get the best results for your business.
10. Social Sharing
You all know how much I love social media, so the fact that Aweber have all of these social media options gives it a huge plus in my eyes. With their Facebook and Twitter integration, you can now automatically post broadcasts to your Facebook wall.
So with all that I think I’ve summed up why I think Aweber is one of the best at its job! Are you using Aweber? If not, what other autoresponders are you using and why? Please leave your comments below
